Thursday, January 8, 2009

I am honored to be joining concept designer Caryn Sturhahn and The Marquee Room for the upcoming Music/Arts - Opening THAT WAS THEN, THIS IS NOW (Calgary, Canada). Unfortunately I will not be in attendance. Even if you are unable to make the opening I would highly recommend taking a look at Sturhahn's new works "NO, I DIDN'T STEAL THIS OUT OF YOUR TRASH." THAT WAS THEN, THIS IS NOW opens Thursday, January 8, 2009 and runs until the end of January.

I would like to send out a really big thank you to Sturhahn and The Marquee Room for the organization/invitation/catering as well as the stunning design+print for this event!

-Leigh Anthony DEHANEY

Ahoj and Hej!

I'm really not sure how to express my gratitude and appreciation for all of the positive support as well as being able to share public and personal moments with many of you. I'm definitely looking forward to meeting those of you that I have not met yet in the new year. For the projects that I have been invited to help out with and even be a part of I say thank so very much!

On a respectful note, I feel extremely privileged to join artists such as Rachel Barrett (USA) and Grace Wawa Yang (Taiwan) in the upcoming book Through the Eyes of New Photographers due out next year. To me, some of their recent work seems to touch on several elements and side effects of "time" which I find very compelling.

"The 240 newsstands I have archived will soon all be gone but the photographs will remain." - Rachel Barrett

More about Barrett's and Yang's projects can be found on their websites:

Warm regards, děkuji ti, شكرا لك

tenement+iv, 1984+½ (2009)
Sunday, November 30 @ 23:37:05 CET by zyphihcore (612 reads)
PHP-Nuke With the first "verse" now finished and the rest at about 50%, I think I can actually see this personal project being completed! I'm pretty excited with the "pair up" of this with the photographic series (same name and theme, but on canvas :) With that, I will be resuming my "kraft dinner" budget and trying to spend my fabrication of time a bit more wisely.. Baby steps! :)

On an enthusiastic note, if you are an artist with similar influences/interests thinking about quirky projects (2009-2010) to collaborate on please drop me a line.. Likewise, if you ever find yourself "across the pond" in the new year I would be more than happy to introduce you to one or two galleries and personalities that you might get along with!

Cheers!

tenement+iv, 1984+½ (2009) is the film/video accompaniment to the photographic series 1984+½:
http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=606775&id=16261109279

Shot in four countries, between 2005 and 2008, tenement+iv is the fourth experimental urban documentary by visual artist Leigh Anthony DEHANEY. As with his gallery work, he continues to conceptually explore themes of retro-futurism, apocalyptic titanism, communication and the nihilistic.

Many of the psycho acoustic soundscapes were initially constructed by Dehaney during 2003-2006 while attending the Alberta College of Art + Design in Canada.

Group Photo Show "NINE" in Calgary, Canada
Friday, October 31 @ 23:33:57 CET by zyphihcore (873 reads)
PHP-NukeDehaney will be one of nine featured artists showing his series "Rose Boudoir" at the upcoming group photography show "Nine" in Calgary, Canada.

You can RSVP and find out a bit more about this event here:
http://www.facebook.com/inbox/?ref=mb#/event.php?eid=35723075425

ROSE BOUDOIR

Somewhat reminiscent of his earlier work in One Star Motel, Dehaney's Rose Boudoir reveals elements of time in relation to artifacts and analysis. This time the environment appears to be a smoke-filled stage of palatial trappings and yet somewhat nondescript.. "For those that must simply present," says Dehaney. The experimental film component of this series was actually completed first. Dehaney then used the moving imagery derive the three mercurial sequences of stills for the photographic portion of Rose Boudoir.

The original prints will be on display at the Group photographic exhibition "NINE" in Calgary, Canada from NOVEMBER 14 - 22 at ARTHOUSE 1043 19TH AVENUE SE
